Utah's registration window and residency test

Utah's DMV says new residents have 60 days to transfer titles and registrations. The Driver License Division does not state a fixed day count; it lists the situations that make you a resident who needs a Utah license. They include entering the state to make Utah your home, staying six months or more in a calendar year, registering a motor vehicle in Utah and taking a job there. Because registering a vehicle is itself a trigger, plan to handle the license in the same trip.

Utah's state sales and use tax rate is 4.85 percent, with local and county options added, and the state's grocery rate is lower. The individual income tax is a flat 4.45 percent for 2026 under the statute. Nevada has no individual income tax, so a tax professional can sort out the part-year return.

A younger, family-heavy housing market

The city of Provo has a median age of 23.6, and 60.6 percent of its households rent, a high renter share. The Provo-Orem-Lehi metro lists medians of $100,704 for median household income, $1,534 for rent and $535,500 for a home, with a median age of 25.8. Reno's metro medians are $87,485, $1,592 and $502,300.

The city of Provo alone lists medians of $467,200 for a home and $1,193 for rent. A student apartment and a family house are different moves; tell your estimator which one you have.

Weather on the Wasatch Front
