Government-arranged moves are booked through your installation transportation office and the Defense Personal Property System at Military OneSource / move.mil. Carriers for government-arranged moves are assigned through that system.

How to use the PCS helper

    1. Choose your stage. The four choices are I have orders, Planning a PPM, Need storage and Arriving in Northern Nevada.
    2. Read the steps. A short numbered list appears.
    3. Follow the official link. Your base transportation office and Military OneSource are the places to start and track a government-arranged move.
    4. Call about local help. For storage or a local move in Northern Nevada, call 775-359-6683.

A permanent change of station comes with a lot of vocabulary and several offices. The helper trims it to a short list for each stage. It points you to the official booking channel first, because that is where a government-arranged move starts, and then shows where O'Brien's can help in Northern Nevada.

    The four stages

With orders in hand, the first stop is your installation transportation office (the Personal Property Office) and the Defense Personal Property System. A Personally Procured Move, or PPM, needs a valid set of orders. If you need storage, ask the transportation office whether your orders authorize it. If you are arriving in Northern Nevada, your inbound shipment is booked through the same channel.

    Where O'Brien's fits

O'Brien's is DOD approved to move and store military household goods. Vault storage in the Sparks warehouse starts from $40 per month, for goods you arrange to store yourself. For a PPM, you can hire help for part of the work, such as packing or loading, and a free in-home estimate shows what that looks like. More is on the military moving page and the page on storage for military households.

What the helper cannot tell you

Weight allowances, reimbursement rules and claim deadlines come from the Joint Travel Regulations and from your transportation office, so the helper gives none of them. It cannot see your orders or your installation's rules, and it cannot book a government move. Always confirm with the Personal Property Office before you act.

    Moving to Nevada

A service member arriving in Northern Nevada has questions beyond the move itself: base access, driver license and vehicle registration. The Nevada DMV keeps a military page for those rules. Base-specific details are on the NAS Fallon page.
