Receiving and warehousing for interior designers

O'Brien's receives a designer's furniture, checks it in, stores it in a 30,000 sq ft Sparks warehouse and delivers it when the room is ready. Installation and debris removal are part of the same service.

A design project runs on timing. Pieces from several makers arrive over weeks, rooms are not ready until the painter leaves, and the client expects everything to appear on the same day. A designer's warehouse partner absorbs that mismatch. O'Brien's takes in the shipments, keeps them safe in Sparks and brings them out when the schedule says go.

What designers use warehousing for

Designers use warehousing to receive freight addressed to the project, to inspect pieces for shipping damage, to hold goods while construction finishes and to stage deliveries room by room. Residential designers, model-room stylists and commercial designers all follow this pattern.

Receiving at a warehouse means a designer does not need to be home for every delivery truck, and the client's front porch does not become a staging area. The designer keeps one contact, one list of what has arrived and one date for the install, which makes the client conversation simpler.

  • Receiving freight for the project
  • Checking pieces on arrival
  • Holding goods while rooms finish
  • Staged delivery and installation

From dock to room

  1. Tell the office which shipments are coming and for which project.
  2. Goods are received and checked in at the Sparks warehouse.
  3. Pieces wait in storage until the room is ready.
  4. The crew delivers on the day you set.
  5. Furniture is placed and assembled, and packing debris is removed.

Installation and debris removal

Install day is where good warehousing pays off. The crew arrives with the right pieces for the right room, sets them where the plan shows and takes the cartons, pads and packaging away. Debris removal is part of the interior-design service, so the client sees finished rooms rather than a stack of boxes.

White-glove handling

New furniture needs the careful treatment of white-glove delivery. See white-glove furniture delivery for how that works, and logistics for interior designers for the larger partner role.

We were referred to O'Brien's Moving and Storage though a friend in Reno. We couldn't be more pleased with the Professionalism and Service. They were quick to set up Luke to come out and give us a quote and scheduled the actual move date right away. Luke was on time for our quote as were the movers on our moving day. All three of the gentlemen who moved us were professional and courteous from start to finish. From the initial phone call to the completion of our move, we felt like we were treated as family. We would definitely use them again and recommend O'Brien's Moving and Storage to our friends in the future.
