Grand Junction's July high averages 94.5 degrees in NOAA's normals, a degree above Reno's 93.9, and Colorado gives new residents 30 days for a license and 90 for registration. The city is about 796 miles from our Sparks warehouse.
Grand Junction is the largest city on Colorado's Western Slope, in the Grand Valley at 4,648 feet. It shares Reno's dry climate far more than the Front Range does. The sections below cover the Colorado deadlines, the Grand Valley weather and what the Census says about housing.
Colorado's two clocks
The Colorado DMV's New to Colorado page lists two separate deadlines: transfer your driver license within 30 days of establishing residency, and title and register your vehicle within 90 days. Residency begins at the earliest of owning a Colorado business, starting Colorado employment or living in the state 90 consecutive days.
Colorado's state sales tax rate is 2.9 percent, with city, county and district taxes added. The income tax is a flat 4.4 percent. Nevada has no individual income tax, so a tax professional can walk through the first Colorado return.

A desert valley with real winters
At the Grand Junction Walker Field station NOAA lists a January high of 38.1 degrees and a low of 17.3, a July high of 94.5 and a low of 63.9, 9.06 inches of precipitation and 17.7 inches of snow a year. Reno gets 7.35 inches of precipitation, 20.9 inches of snow and a January low of 26.1.
The valley is dry like Reno, so wood furniture keeps the humidity it had. Winter lows are colder, which matters for liquids, plants and paint.
Housing on the Western Slope
The American Community Survey puts the median home value in the city at $389,800, median gross rent at $1,142 and median household income at $70,080. The Grand Junction metro, which is Mesa County, lists medians of $378,600, $1,182 and $73,658. Reno's metro home value is $502,300.
Median age in the city is 40.4, over three years above Reno's metro median of 39.5. Medians describe areas, not individual homes.

The plan from Sparks
The booking is with O'Brien's. A free in-home estimate at your Reno or Sparks home comes with 10 free heavy-duty boxes, and the Bekins network carries the shipment. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. The guide to interstate moves lays out each step.
On the route data the haul is about 796 miles on roads that include I-80 and I-70, or 2 driving days at 500 miles a day. Vault storage in Sparks is from $40 per month.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.
