Kentucky gives you 15 days to apply for vehicle registration and 30 days to get a Kentucky credential, and its income tax is a flat 3.5 percent for 2026. The six percent state sales tax is the only sales tax; Kentucky has no local option.
Kentucky's registration window is among the shorter windows, set by statute at 15 days. The Census shows about 204 people moving from Nevada to Kentucky in 2024, a small flow, but in 2023 the figure was about 1,445.

Fifteen days is short
Kentucky statute KRS 186.020 says a person who brings a motor vehicle into the Commonwealth from another state shall make application for registration within fifteen days. The DRIVE New To Kentucky page also says new residents must obtain a Kentucky credential within 30 days of establishing residency.
One page of the same agency says 10 days for title and registration, so plan for the shortest. Go to the county clerk first with your Nevada title, proof of insurance and identification.
Taxes: 3.5 percent
The Kentucky Department of Revenue says the individual income tax rate for 2026 is 3.5 percent, down from 4 percent in 2025. The statewide sales tax is 6 percent, and the department says there is no local option sales tax in Kentucky.
Nevada has no state personal income tax, so a Kentucky salary will be taxed, though less than in many states.
Louisville and the Bluegrass
Kentucky's median home value is 205,600 dollars, its median gross rent is 967 dollars a month and its median household income is 63,726 dollars. About 28 people a year left Washoe County for Kentucky in the county data, and about 54 came from Kentucky to Washoe.

How the move works
You book with O'Brien's, an estimator visits your home for a free estimate with 10 free heavy-duty boxes, and the interstate move is carried through the Bekins network. The estimate is itemized and in writing, and the written estimate sets the delivery window.
Given the 15-day clock, try to arrive before your goods do, or ask about storage in Sparks so that your paperwork does not wait for the truck. See how an interstate move works.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.
