Finding doctors is one of the first tasks after a move, and it is one of the easiest to put off. This page names the hospital systems in the region, shows how far each town is from Reno, and lists what to carry with you.
Hospitals in the region
Reno has Renown Regional Medical Center and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, and the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System serves veterans. Carson City has Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Gardnerville has Carson Valley Medical Center, and Truckee has Tahoe Forest Hospital. Medicare.gov's Care Compare lists each facility's quality information, and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services publishes facility information.
Check which health plans each system accepts before you choose a home, because networks differ.
Distances from our Sparks warehouse
Reno is 6.3 miles and 11 minutes. Carson City is 32.6 miles and 39 minutes. Minden is 46.9 miles and Gardnerville 49.1 miles, about an hour. Settling in with a doctor
Ask your current providers for records and prescriptions before you leave. A checklist, kept in the first-night box described in our first-night box guide, should include insurance cards, medication lists and referral letters.
