Data (read 2026-10-19): OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, free-flow drive from 2277 Glendale Ave, Sparks; U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates; NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020; U.S. Census Bureau, State-to-State Migration Flows (ACS 1-year 2024); U.S. Census Bureau, ACS county-to-county migration flows 2016-2020.

El Paso city has about 680,000 residents and the metro area about 874,000. The Census counts about 139 people a year moving from El Paso County to Washoe County (2016 to 2020 estimates, with a margin of error). El Paso sits at 3,891 feet, so the elevation change is much smaller than for any other Texas origin.

The drive: 1,152 miles, three road days

From El Paso to our Sparks warehouse the road distance is about 1,152 miles, against a straight line of 916 miles. The highways add about 236 miles. Free-flow driving is 22 hours, which the planner shows as three road days at 500 miles a day. This is a road figure, not a delivery promise, and your written estimate sets the delivery window.

I-10 supplies 427 miles from the El Paso end. US 95 supplies 272 miles on the Nevada side, US 93 supplies 175 miles and I-11 supplies 42 miles. Those four roads make up 916 of the 1,152 miles, and the rest are connectors between them.

A high-desert drive from start to finish

El Paso sits at 3,891 feet, and Reno sits at 4,930 feet, a difference of about 1,039 feet. The routing tool lists no named mountain pass. Both ends are desert cities, and the climate normals show it: El Paso receives about 8.8 inches of precipitation a year and Reno about 7.4.

Heat is the planning point in summer, and snow in the Nevada section is the winter point. Check the NDOT road conditions site before the truck leaves.

Reading the road numbers

Split into 500-mile days, the 1,152 miles are two full days and a third day of about 152 miles. Free-flow driving of 22 hours over 1,152 miles implies a pace of about 52 miles per hour, with no stops, traffic or weather counted. The figure describes the road and not the delivery.

I-10 is about 37 percent of the distance, and US 95 is another 24 percent. If you follow the truck in your own vehicle, the Nevada end is where the planning matters, because US 93, I-11 and US 95 together make up 489 miles of the trip.

What changes when you arrive

El Paso city's median rent is $1,073 and its median home value is $184,500; Reno's are $1,556 and $548,300. The median household income is $59,745 in El Paso and $80,760 in Reno. The table above prints both ends. Of the five Texas origins, El Paso has the widest gap in home value.

Winter is the change. El Paso gets about 2.8 inches of snow a year and Reno about 21 inches. The January low is near 34.5 degrees in El Paso and near 26.1 in Reno.
