Ohio asks for paperwork quickly and for income tax every year, so the order of your first month matters. The figures below come from Ohio's own statutes and agencies, and the fact block above lists the same numbers in one place.

Ohio's 30-day clock for your car and license

Ohio Revised Code section 4503.111 requires a person who owns a vehicle operated on Ohio roads to register it within thirty days of becoming a resident. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles says the same window applies to transferring your out-of-state license and title: thirty days from the day you establish residency.

Count from the day you move into your Ohio home, not from the day the truck leaves Sparks. Keep your Nevada title, your Nevada registration and proof of your new Ohio address in a folder that rides with you, never on the truck, because the BMV will ask for all three on the first visit.

What Ohio taxes that Nevada does not

Nevada collects no state personal income tax. Ohio does. For tax year 2026 and after, Ohio Revised Code 5747.02 sets a fixed $332 plus 2.75 percent of nonbusiness income above $26,050. Business income stays at a flat 3 percent, so a self-employed household should read the Ohio Department of Taxation pages for its own case.

Sales tax moves the other way for many shoppers. Ohio's state rate is 5.75 percent, and counties and regional transit authorities may levy additional sales and use taxes, so the rate on your receipt depends on the county you land in. Nevada's statewide minimum is 6.85 percent.

How an Ohio move is booked

You book the move with O'Brien's. An estimator comes to your Sparks or Reno home, pack and load happen there, and the Bekins network carries the shipment to Ohio. Your written estimate sets the delivery window, and it is itemized and in writing so a long-distance bill holds no surprises.

Long-distance moves are priced by weight, which makes the in-home estimate the right first step. Ask for it on the free estimate page and the estimator leaves 10 free heavy-duty boxes you keep. Before packing starts, you also get an itemized inventory and condition report to review.

If the Ohio house is not ready

Closing dates and move dates rarely line up. Your belongings can wait in our 30,000 square foot Sparks warehouse in wooden vaults, with vault storage from $40 per month, and ship when the Ohio keys are in your hand. Stored goods need about 2 to 3 weeks notice to ship, so tell your estimator early. See storage between homes for how that works.
