Moving to Reno from North Carolina
North Carolina has a flat income tax rate of 3.99 percent for tax years after 2025, and its DMV gives new residents 60 days to get a license and title a car. About 171 people a year move from North Carolina into Washoe County, according to Census county data.
North Carolina is a state people leave in two directions at once: out of the Piedmont's fast-growing cities, and out of small towns to somewhere new. A few of them end up in Northern Nevada, and the process differs from a short move in a few ways.

North Carolina taxes, now and next
The North Carolina Department of Revenue says the individual rate was cut to 4.5 percent for 2024, 4.25 percent for 2025 and 3.99 percent for tax years after 2025, all as a flat rate. Sales tax is 4.75 percent at the state level, with local and transit rates added. Further cuts are written into law for later years, depending on revenue. DMV rules before and after the move
NCDMV tells newcomers they have 60 days after establishing a permanent home to get a North Carolina license and title and register vehicles, and that a license comes before titling. On the way out, keep your North Carolina license valid until a Nevada one is issued, and ask your insurer about plate surrender.
The Census view of North Carolina
The 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey puts North Carolina at about 10.73 million people, with a median household income of $72,388, median gross rent of $1,228 and a median home value of $288,900; 33.4 percent of households rent. For 2024 the Census estimates about 541 people moved from North Carolina to Nevada and about 1,687 the other way, though both figures carry large margins of error.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
