New Jersey is where I-80 begins. The interstate leaves the George Washington Bridge area, crosses Pennsylvania and the Midwest, and ends near Reno's doorstep, which makes the New Jersey to Reno trip one of the most direct in the country.
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission tells newcomers to transfer their out-of-state license and registration within 60 days of the move or before the current ones expire, whichever comes first. That rule is for people arriving in New Jersey. On your way out, turn in plates as your insurer requires and keep your New Jersey license valid until you get a Nevada one.
New Jersey's gross income tax runs up to 10.75 percent on income above $1 million, and the sales tax is a single 6.625 percent rate statewide. Nevada charges no state personal income tax.
