Missouri sits at the center of the country, with St. Louis and Kansas City both far from Reno, and about 1,100 people living in Nevada in 2024 had lived in Missouri the year before, per Census estimates. These are the facts for both ends.
The Missouri Department of Revenue says you have 30 days from becoming a resident to title your vehicle, and that you must apply for a Missouri license as soon as you establish residency. Those apply to arrivals. Leaving, cancel Missouri registration after Nevada's is done, and ask the county collector about personal property tax, which Missouri bills annually on vehicles.
Ask for a statement before you leave. If a lender holds your car title, tell them early, and ask the Nevada DMV what it needs from a lienholder before you register. Starting that conversation before the truck leaves saves a second trip.
Missouri's income tax is graduated with a top rate of 4.7 percent for 2026, and further cuts depend on revenue triggers in state law. The state sales tax is 4.225 percent and local taxes add to it. Nevada collects no state income tax on wages. Ask a tax professional about a part-year return.
