Michigan's immediate rule
The Michigan Secretary of State says new residents must immediately title and register their vehicles, with no grace period in Michigan law, and should visit a branch office at once for a license. That applies to people arriving. When leaving, keep your Michigan title until Nevada plates are issued, then return or cancel plates and update your insurance, which Michigan ties closely to registration.

Flat 4.25 percent
Michigan's individual income tax is a flat 4.25 percent for the 2026 tax year, and the state sales tax is 6 percent. Several Michigan cities, including Detroit, also levy a city income tax. Nevada does not tax wages at the state or city level. A part-year Michigan return is typical in the year you leave.

That is how the Secretary of State describes it for new residents. Nevada gives people arriving 30 days.
