Massachusetts expects a license and registration the moment you become a resident. That makes the Nevada window of 30 days feel generous, and it is useful to plan around.
The Massachusetts RMV says you must register your vehicle as soon as you become a resident, and that the law does not provide a grace period. A license must be converted at the same time. These rules apply to arrivals. When you leave, cancel Massachusetts registration after your Nevada plates are issued and return plates as the RMV directs.
Massachusetts also bills a motor vehicle excise tax by town, so ask the assessor how the final year is prorated.
