Providence is at 42 feet and the Sparks warehouse is at 4,437 feet. It is one of the longest routes into Reno that this page covers: the map line between the two is about 2,505 miles, and the road adds about 360 more. Almost all of that road is one highway.

I-84 to the Pennsylvania line, then I-80 for the long run

The printed route leaves Rhode Island on I-84 for about 165 miles, uses 55 miles of US 6 and 35 miles of I-81, and then joins I-80 for 2,538 miles. That is 88 percent of the trip on one interstate. In the New England and Mid-Atlantic stretch the roads are short links between large cities. After that, the route becomes the long, simple run across the middle of the country and into Nevada.

Each state publishes a 511 page, and the NDOT page covers the last stretch.

Six days at 500 miles a day

The wheel time is about 50 h 36 min, which the planning rule rounds to six days. A shipment moving through the Bekins network is not a single truck driving straight through, so the delivery window in your written estimate is the date to plan around. The driving figure just tells you how big the job is.

Winter matters most at both ends of the trip. Providence averages 36.6 inches of snow a year and a January high of 38.3 degrees, and the last miles into Nevada can meet snow too. A summer departure avoids both.

How the move works with O'Brien's

You book with O'Brien's, the Bekins Van Lines agent in Sparks. We coordinate the move from your Rhode Island address through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in the Reno area. If your Reno closing is delayed, your goods can wait in our warehouse, and vault storage starts from $40 per month.

The first step is a phone ballpark or the online request. Estimates are itemized and in writing, and long-distance moves are priced by weight.

How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent

O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.
