Nevada collects no state personal income tax. Rhode Island's uniform schedule for tax year 2026 charges 3.75 percent up to $82,050, 4.75 percent from $82,050 to $186,450, and $8,035.88 plus 5.99 percent above that. Most households live in the first two bands.
The sales tax is 7 percent, a single statewide rate with no general local sales tax added on top. Rhode Island does have a separate local meals and beverage tax and a hotel tax. Compare that with Nevada's 6.85 percent statewide minimum.
