Kansas households tend to be shorter on tax relief than on distance: the state is in the middle of the country and the drive to Reno is long. The 90-day Kansas window is generous, which makes Nevada's 30 days feel abrupt on arrival.
Kansas rules for arrivals
The Kansas Department of Revenue's Division of Vehicles says a vehicle located in Kansas for 90 days or more must be titled, and its driver's license FAQ gives 90 days after establishing residency. Those are the windows for people arriving in Kansas. For you, the Kansas side is closing accounts: cancel registration when Nevada's is issued, and notify your county treasurer.
Keep your Kansas title in your hand, not on the truck, until your Nevada registration is complete.
Two Kansas income tax rates
Kansas has two rates, 5.20 percent and 5.58 percent, with the higher rate applying above $23,000 for single filers and $46,000 for joint filers. The state sales tax is 6.5 percent and local rates add to it. Nevada collects no state personal income tax from wages.
