Sierra Army Depot was established in 1942 and covers 36,000 acres of high desert at Herlong in Lassen County, California. It is the Army's Center for Industrial Technical Excellence for petroleum and water distribution systems, and its largest facility for equipment retrograde, regeneration, reutilization and redistribution.
The road from our Sparks yard to Herlong is about 55 miles. It follows I-580 and then US 395 north, with a short county road at the end, and takes about 69 minutes in free-flowing traffic. Herlong sits at about 4,100 feet, in the same high-desert basin country as the Reno-Sparks area, which makes it one of the closer installations to our warehouse.
Because Herlong is across the state line, a move between Nevada and the depot is an interstate move. O'Brien's holds U.S. DOT No. 30611 and MC-109375 for interstate household goods, so the same company handles both sides of the line.
Military household goods moves are booked through the Defense Personal Property System, reached from Military OneSource, with help from your installation transportation office. You choose between a government-arranged shipment and a Personally Procured Move. A PPM requires a valid set of orders.

O'Brien's is DOD approved to move and store military household goods. For a PPM, or for services you want to arrange on your own such as packing, a fragile item that needs custom crating, or a piano, you can hire us directly.
