Next door to the Sparks warehouse

The base is about 2.5 miles from our office, truck yard and warehouse at 2277 Glendale Ave, a trip of roughly 6 minutes. That is a short installation drive, and it means a move for a Guard member can be planned with very little road time. The airport area has its own neighborhood page: movers in Southeast Reno and the Airport area.

With the warehouse that close, a load can be picked up, held and delivered without a long haul between stops, which is useful when a move is split across two dates.

How booking works for a Guard member

Military household goods moves are booked through the Defense Personal Property System, which you reach from Military OneSource, with help from a transportation or personal property office. A Personally Procured Move requires a valid set of orders. What a move is covered for depends on the orders, so ask your unit's administrative contact what your orders cover before you book a mover.

Your orders, not a mover, decide what the government pays for. Bring a copy of them to any conversation about cost.

Where O'Brien's fits

O'Brien's is DOD approved to move and store military household goods. If your move is self-arranged, a PPM, or an ordinary local move across Reno and Sparks, you can hire us directly. A government-arranged shipment is assigned through DPS and the transportation office.

Family owned since 1941, O'Brien's sends one of its estimators for a free, no-obligation in-home estimate. The estimate is itemized and in writing, and 10 free heavy-duty boxes come with it.

Storage close to the base

Guard members who deploy, train away from home or wait for a closing date can keep household goods in the Sparks warehouse. Check with your unit first about any storage your orders authorize. For storage you arrange yourself, wooden vaults measuring 7 ft x 7 ft x 5 ft start from $40 per month, and delivery out is booked with about 2 to 3 weeks notice.

See storage for military households for details, or storage for Reno households.

Both movers were courteous, efficient and very carful with my furniture. Also, talking with Janet over the phone was a pleasure.

The two employees showed up on time and were very polite and ready to work. Our quote was 8 hours and they finished in 5 hours. Office staff checked in prior to move and confirmed all details and check in after move to make sure everything was taken care of. Would use this company again for sure!
