Los Angeles to Reno is about 469 road miles, roughly 9 hours 29 minutes of free-flow driving, mostly on US 395. O'Brien's books it under its federal authority (U.S. DOT No. 30611) and delivers in Reno from the Sparks warehouse.
The Los Angeles metro has about 13 million residents and is the largest origin O'Brien's sees in California. Unlike the Bay Area moves, this one does not use I-80: it leaves the basin on CA 14, climbs through the Mojave and follows the eastern Sierra on US 395.

CA 14 and US 395: the eastern Sierra road
The route block shows 286 miles on US 395, 118 miles on CA 14, 34 miles on I-580 and 21 miles on a truck route of I-405. It leaves the Los Angeles basin, crosses the Antelope Valley, then runs north through the Owens Valley and Mono County, passes Bridgeport and enters Nevada's Carson Valley before I-580 carries it into Reno.
At 469 road miles against 388 in a straight line, the line is fairly direct. The 9 hours 29 minutes is free-flow time for a car. A household truck runs slower on long grades, and your delivery window comes from the written estimate.
Conway Summit and the winter closures to check
The one named pass is Conway Summit on US 395, at about 8,140 feet, higher than Donner. US 395 is a two-lane road in long stretches and can have chain controls or temporary closures in snow. Check Caltrans QuickMap for California and NDOT for Nevada.
Los Angeles city has about 3.86 million residents, a median household income near $81,939, a median gross rent near $1,933 and a median home value near $921,200 in the American Community Survey. Reno city's medians are $80,760, $1,556 and $548,300. Incomes are almost equal, but Reno homes cost much less.
Santa Monica's January high is 66 and its July high 75, with 13 inches of rain. Reno's July high is about 94, its January low is 26, and it receives about 7 inches of precipitation and 21 inches of snow. Californians who move east plan for dry air and cold nights.

How the move works with O'Brien's
You book with O'Brien's, and we coordinate the move from your Los Angeles or Orange County home through the Bekins Van Lines network. After the long haul north, O'Brien's delivers, unpacks and stores in Sparks, where the vault warehouse covers 30,000 square feet.
Large households and long distances make weight the main driver of the price. The an itemized written estimate; read binding and non-binding estimates.
Planning notes
Condo and apartment moves in the basin often need elevator reservations and certificates of insurance. Tell the estimator the building rules at the free in-home estimate, and read moving to Reno from California for the arrival steps.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

We were referred to O'Brien's Moving and Storage though a friend in Reno. We couldn't be more pleased with the Professionalism and Service. They were quick to set up Luke to come out and give us a quote and scheduled the actual move date right away. Luke was on time for our quote as were the movers on our moving day. All three of the gentlemen who moved us were professional and courteous from start to finish. From the initial phone call to the completion of our move, we felt like we were treated as family. We would definitely use them again and recommend O'Brien's Moving and Storage to our friends in the future.
