Moving From Nevada to Georgia
Georgia asks new residents to register vehicles within 30 days and apply for a Georgia license within 30 days, and its flat income tax rate is 4.99 percent for 2026. The state sales tax is 4 percent, with local rates added.
Georgia trades people with Nevada in both directions; the Census 2024 estimate is about 2,001 moving from Nevada to Georgia and about 2,604 moving the other way. The licensing order matters most for newcomers.

License first, then the car
Georgia's Department of Revenue says new residents must register their vehicles within 30 days of their move, and Georgia's Department of Driver Services says to apply for a Georgia driver's license within 30 days of becoming a resident. A Georgia license is required before the vehicle is registered.
Start with the license at a driver service center, then move on to the county tag office with your Nevada title, proof of insurance and the license.
A falling flat rate
Georgia lowered its income tax to a flat 4.99 percent for 2026 after a 5.19 percent rate in 2025, and further cuts are scheduled if conditions are met. The state sales and use tax rate is 4 percent, and county rates push the total higher.
Nevada has no state personal income tax, so the paycheck will change. Georgia also has local option sales taxes for roads and schools; the Department of Revenue publishes the rate by county.
Atlanta and beyond
Georgia's median household income is 77,353 dollars, its median home value is 303,300 dollars and its median gross rent is 1,393 dollars a month. In county data about 144 people a year left Washoe County for Georgia and about 82 came to Washoe from Georgia.

How the move works
You book the move with O'Brien's, and we coordinate it from Sparks through the Bekins network. A free in-home estimate comes with 10 free heavy-duty boxes yours to keep, and the written estimate sets the delivery window. We pack and load in Sparks, and our warehouse can hold goods between homes.
The how an interstate move works page walks through what happens from the estimate to the unload. Georgia summers are humid, so ask the estimator about wrapping upholstered pieces and wood furniture, and keep paperwork, medicines and electronics chargers with you in the car.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

The two employees showed up on time and were very polite and ready to work. Our quote was 8 hours and they finished in 5 hours. Office staff checked in prior to move and confirmed all details and check in after move to make sure everything was taken care of. Would use this company again for sure!
