Packing services in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe has about 21,000 residents and 9,500 households, and about 36 percent of its housing units are seasonal. Of roughly 16,700 homes, about 6,600 have three bedrooms, about 4,800 have two and about 2,000 have four.

Rentals shape the work

With nearly half of households renting, many packs are for lease-end moves with fixed dates. The crew plans the pack to finish with time for cleaning.

Condo and apartment access

Condo complexes have loading rules, stairs and shared halls. The estimator asks about these during the visit and the crew brings pads, runners and mid-size cartons for stairs. Heavy goods such as books go in small cartons to keep weights easy to carry.

Older housing stock

About 74 percent of homes were built before 1980, and the median home dates to 1973. Older houses have older layouts and plenty of stored belongings. The crew packs by room and labels each carton.

Storage for gaps and seasons

Between leases or between a sale and a purchase, packed goods go into wooden vaults in our warehouse, with vault storage from $40 per month. See storage between homes and seasonal and second-home storage.

The drive over the pass

South Lake Tahoe is about 60 miles and 83 minutes from our Sparks warehouse via I-580 and US 50. Winter storms can close or slow the pass, and the National Weather Service forecast office in Reno posts conditions. Boxes and supplies are sold at the Sparks office. See Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

Before packing day

Sort what you will keep, donate or discard before the crew arrives, and tell the estimator about elevators, stairs and the loading rules at your building. Keep a bag of daily items aside, such as medicine, chargers and keys. Because many South Lake Tahoe moves run on a lease date, ask for the packing days to be written on the estimate so the dates are clear.
