Iowa's title and license rules
The Iowa DOT says you must title and register a motor vehicle with a county treasurer within 30 days of establishing Iowa residency. For licensing, the DOT does not give new residents a day count; it defines residency, and one trigger is living in Iowa continuously for 30 days. Both rules apply to people arriving. Leaving, ask your county treasurer how to close the registration and keep your title for Nevada.
If you farm or own acreage, check with your county about agricultural assessments before the home sells.
Flat 3.8 percent versus no state income tax
Iowa moved to a flat income tax of 3.8 percent in 2026, replacing a graduated schedule. Its state sales tax is 6 percent, and most localities add a 1 percent local option tax.
