Moving from Reno to Orlando
Orlando is about 2,850 miles from Reno, and Florida expects vehicle registration within 10 days and a license within 30. NOAA's July high for the airport is 92 degrees.
Central Florida is inland, with lakes, afternoon thunderstorms and a metro of Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties. This page sets out what is specific to Orlando: its county tax collectors, its weather and its Census housing figures.
Florida deadlines, applied to Orlando
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles department gives new residents 10 days to register a vehicle and 30 days to hold a Florida driver license. In Orange County, the Tax Collector's offices handle both.
Because the vehicle clock is shorter, make the first appointment for the vehicle.

Taxes in Central Florida
Florida collects no personal income tax, and its general state sales tax is 6 percent. Counties may add a discretionary surtax of 0 to 2.5 percent.
A Reno household that already pays no income tax will find the sales tax and vehicle fees are the places to look.
Hot, wet summers
NOAA's normals for Orlando International show a January high of 71.8 degrees and low of 49.5, a July high of 92.0 and low of 73.2, 51.5 inches of precipitation a year and no measurable snow. Afternoon storms are common in summer.
The hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, so pick your delivery month with the season in mind.
Orlando housing
The American Community Survey puts the city of Orlando at a median home value of $394,100, median gross rent of $1,747 and a renter share of 60.5 percent. The Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metro has a median home value of $369,800 and median gross rent of $1,760.
Many Orlando households live in planned communities, some with rules about when moving trucks may enter.

Planning the first week in Orlando
Start with the tax collector appointment for the vehicle, then the driver license, utilities and school enrollment. Many Central Florida communities are managed by homeowner associations that post rules for moving trucks, so ask the association for entry hours and gate codes before the delivery window opens.
A Reno household moving into a smaller Orlando rental can keep the extra furniture in a vault until a larger home is ready.
Booking the Orlando move with O'Brien's
You book the move with O'Brien's. An estimator visits for a free, itemized in-home estimate, and 10 free heavy-duty boxes come with it. Packing and loading are done in Northern Nevada, and the Bekins network carries the shipment to Florida.
Your written estimate sets the delivery window. Vault storage in Sparks starts from $40 per month if the Orlando closing is later. Read the delivery spread guide to understand how windows work.
How a long-distance move works with a Bekins agent
O'Brien's Moving & Storage has been an agent for Bekins Van Lines since 1955. On an interstate move the Bekins network carries your shipment under the van line's interstate system; O'Brien's books the move in either direction. Leaving Northern Nevada, we give the free in-home estimate, pack, store in our Sparks warehouse if you need it, and load. Moving here from another state, you book with us and we coordinate the move from your origin through the Bekins network, then handle delivery, unpacking and storage in Sparks. Your written estimate sets the delivery window. What being a Bekins agent means.

The two employees showed up on time and were very polite and ready to work. Our quote was 8 hours and they finished in 5 hours. Office staff checked in prior to move and confirmed all details and check in after move to make sure everything was taken care of. Would use this company again for sure!
