Moving from Mammoth Lakes and Mono County to Reno
Mammoth Lakes to Reno is about 170 miles, roughly three and a half hours of free-flow driving, and 127 miles are on US 395 with Conway Summit at about 8,140 feet. Mammoth Lakes itself sits at 8,248 feet.
Mammoth Lakes is a resort town of about 7,200 people where the median home value is $866,700 and the median gross rent is $1,645. Mono County has just 13,100 residents in all. Moving from here to Reno means moving down the east side of the Sierra, along US 395, without crossing the crest.

The drive: US 395 north
The route data lists 127 miles on US 395, 34 on I-580 and 2 on CA 203, the road into Mammoth Lakes itself. US 395 runs through the Mono Basin, over Conway Summit at about 8,140 feet, and continues to the Carson Valley before I-580 reaches Reno.
Winter matters on this route more than on most. Mammoth is a snow destination, with plowed streets but steep driveways and sometimes limited truck parking, and the eastern Sierra highway can see chain controls and closures. The estimator asks about access, such as stairs, a condo loading dock or a shared driveway, and the crew plans the day for it.
Check Caltrans QuickMap and NDOT before a winter move. The driving time on this page is a free-flow figure; your delivery window comes from the written estimate.
Starting at more than 8,000 feet means the first miles are downhill, which is easier on a loaded truck than a climb, but the road still crosses a high pass before it descends into Nevada.
What the miles mean for a move
Many Mammoth households hold seasonal equipment: skis, snowboards, bikes and gear. Condo moves may involve building rules, elevator reservations or limited hours. Ask the building manager about these before the in-home estimate.
At 170 miles the trip is short for a long-distance move. Pricing is by weight, from the itemized inventory made before packing.
Cost and climate at both ends
Mammoth Lakes' median home value is $866,700 against Reno city's $548,300. The nearest NOAA station is in Bishop, with a January low of 23.5 and a July high of 99.7. Reno's January low is 26.1 and its July high is 93.9, so the temperatures are closer than you might expect, but Reno is far less snowy.
Census flow estimates from Mono County to Washoe County are small, and the margin of error is larger than the estimate, so people move in both directions. The towns along US 395 are linked by work, family and winter travel.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings. Our bed is a mechanical one and a nightmare to us, but these guys had no issue with it at all. Although I have no desire to ever move again--but if I did, I would be calling these guys for sure!!!
