Most long-distance moves run on a delivery window, not a single date. Expedited service is the option for the customer whose new lease, closing or job start leaves no room for that window, and it is written into the paperwork before the truck is loaded.
Where the term comes from
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration defines expedited service in the consumer booklet every interstate mover must hand out: an agreement with the mover to perform the transportation by a set date in exchange for an agreed upon additional charge. Section 375.301(a)(2) of the carrier rules names it as a service option a mover may build into its tariff. Because it is an option and not a requirement, whether it exists, and how it is priced, is decided by the tariff of the carrier that moves your goods.
The word to notice is 'agreed'. An expedited date is not something a driver promises at the curb. It is a term of the contract, so it belongs on the written estimate and carries through to the bill of lading.

How it differs from the standard window
Without it, the mover owes you reasonable dispatch under 375.601, meaning transport on the dates or during the period you and the mover agreed and wrote on the bill of lading. That period is the pickup and delivery spread. Expedited service replaces the spread with a set date for the part of the move you need pinned down.
It is also a different thing from guaranteed pickup and delivery service, which adds reimbursement for delay. Read the two glossary entries side by side if your estimate uses either phrase: guaranteed pickup and delivery and the delivery spread guide.
What to ask your estimator
- Is expedited service available for my shipment, from my origin to my destination?
- What date is being set, and is it a pickup date, a delivery date or both?
- What is the extra charge, and where does it appear as its own line on the itemized estimate?
- Does the date still hold if the load is added to or the weight changes?
- Where will the agreed date be written on the bill of lading?
How it plays out on a move out of Sparks
A long-distance shipment leaving Northern Nevada is carried by the Bekins network, so the tariff that applies to an expedited request is the carrier's, and the O'Brien's estimator reads it with you. If your key date is tied to a closing or a job start in another state, say so at the first call to 775-359-6683 or at the free in-home estimate, because the date is easier to plan around before the load is scheduled than after.
Keep your own side flexible too. A set date works best when your home is packed, the elevator or parking is reserved, and nobody at the destination needs to hold the date open while the truck is still on the road.
