About 48 percent of Truckee's housing units are seasonal or occasional-use homes, so storage here often means furniture from a second home. O'Brien's wooden vaults in Sparks, about 36 miles away, start at $40 per month.
Truckee is a mountain town of about 17,100 people in roughly 6,900 households at about 6,655 feet, in Nevada County, California. About 27 percent of households rent, and the town has a large base of second homes alongside year-round residents.

Nearly half the homes are part-time
The Census counts about 47.9 percent of Truckee's housing units as seasonal, recreational or occasional-use. That is a very large share for a town this size, and it shapes how storage gets used.
Owners refresh, rent out and sell second homes often. Furniture that moves out of those homes needs a dry place to wait.
A short run down Interstate 80
The warehouse is about 36 miles and 48 minutes from Truckee, among the shorter drives to a Tahoe-area town. The route follows the interstate, which can see chain controls in winter, so check the Caltrans QuickMap and NV Roads before a packing day.
A crew can load in town and unload at the warehouse in one trip.
Moves to and from the Reno area
Many Truckee households have ties on both sides of the state line. A family might store furniture in Sparks while it relocates from Truckee to the Reno area, or while a second home is rented out.
The wooden vaults measure 7 ft x 7 ft x 5 ft, and a forklift stacks them in the warehouse. Vault storage starts at $40 per month. Stored goods ship with about 2 to 3 weeks notice, and delivery goes to the address you name.

Truckee winters are long, and snow on the pass changes the calendar for any move. The best packing weeks tend to be late spring, summer and early fall, but a lease or a closing may not wait.
If your date falls in winter, tell the estimator early. The office can plan a crew and a back-up day around the Caltrans and NWS information available for that week.
O'Brien's Moving & Storage moves households within California under its own authority: Cal PUC T-90973 (as published by O'Brien's). A move between Nevada and California crosses a state line, so it is an interstate move under our federal authority (U.S. DOT No. 30611, MC-109375) instead.
3 O'Brien movers came down from Reno to South Lake Tahoe to assist our company moving a lot of big furniture out of a large warehouse. They showed up on-time, were friendly, and were professional and got the job done quickly and diligently. Will definitely use them again.
