A model apartment sells the other apartments, so every pillow, lamp and chair has to be in its place when the leasing office opens. The furniture is picked by a designer, ordered from several vendors, and has to be set up in a unit that may still smell of paint. The work is small compared with a hotel, but the tolerance for mistakes is smaller too.
A typical order has a living room set, a dining set, bedroom furniture, rugs, art, lamps and accessories, plus pieces for the leasing lobby, a clubhouse or a fitness lounge. Items arrive from different makers over several weeks. The warehouse receives them, checks them against the designer's schedule, and keeps them together.

Large apartment communities open in phases. The first building may need its model room months before the last one is framed. Because freight can wait in the warehouse, a developer can order the next model's furniture early and release it only when the building passes inspection.

Talk about organized people. I peeked in the truck about an hour into the job and was amazed at how well organized it was and how many of my things had protective coverings.
